This position is to provide Calix with optical system engineering capabilities for telecommunication networks. The successful candidate will have experience in modeling optical communication networks and performing optical testing to verify the models that were generated. The successful candidate will have experience in the use of standard laboratory test equipment to evaluate optical systems empirically. The candidate must have solid communications skills and will be expected to present their work internally and externally. External presentations would include representing Calix with industry standards bodies and vendors. There will be a limited amount of travel that will be focused on vendor visits and trade shows. Electrical engineering experience in the design of electro-optical systems a plus.
This is an technology leadership position intended to support Calix''s efforts in developing and deploying advanced optical communication networks. The successful candidate will work both internally and externally on developing key technology that will facilitate Calix''s strategy for network evolution.
Modeling optical systems using software tools.
Writing optical component specifications based on the results of optical simulations.
Testing of the optical components to determine conformance to specifications.
Documenting the test results.
Providing guidance to component vendors on how to best meet Calix requirements.
Support of electro-optical design activities.
Five to ten years of applicable experience
Bachelors or Master's degree in Engineering or Physics
Demonstrated mathematical modeling ability
Experience with at least one mathematical modeling tool (e.g. Mathcad, Mathematic, Optsim)
Experience with the empirical evaluation of optical systems.
Demonstrated technical communications capability
Experience with the design of electro-optical systems a plus.
