Recreation Supervisor - Youth and Preschool Programs (FT)

Brooklyn Park Recreation and Parks Department is looking for a creative, collaborative, and dedicated professional with a desire to make a positive impact in the lives of young people and families in Brooklyn Park.
This position is responsible for the operation of 4 full-seasonsummer day camp locations, a largestudio dance program, and the creation of new enrichment programs for youth and families during the school year.
Both Summer Camp and Brooklyn Park Dance are legacy programs in the community that provide opportunities for creative expression, teamwork, and connection that create memories that can last a life time.
The Recreation Supervisor will supervise a team of 75
seasonal staff, contractors, and volunteers.
This position is responsible for leading development and training for seasonal staff focused on elements resulting in high program quality and cultural competence.
The Recreation Supervisor will work under the general supervision of the Recreation Services Manager in the Recreation Division of the Recreation and Parks Department.

Plan, supervise, and evaluate programs within the work portfolio including summer camp, dance, and new enrichment programs for youth and families Recruit, hire, train and supervise seasonal staff and work with contract vendors to provide recreation programs Prepare, monitor, and provide year end reporting on program area budgets totaling $500,000 in expenditures annually Provide support to on-site program staff including social-emotional learning, direct service, and relationship building with participants and their families Ensure programs and services are equitable to all members of the community Maintain accurate records for year-end reporting including participation levels, contact hours, accident/incidents, and parent evaluations of programs and services Work with communications team to develop marketing materials necessary for program promotion Facilitate meetings for various work groups Participate in cross-department work groups to advance City-wide initiatives and theBP 2025 goals Complete internal and external facility use requests and manage permits Assist with large scale department wide events as needed Other duties as assigned or apparent Education Bachelor's degree Recreation and Parks Administration, Therapeutic Recreation, Youth Development, Education, Sports Management, Outdoor Education, or closely related fieldExperience Five (5) years of highly-related experience to the duties of the position, which includes:
Developing and implementing recreation programs for youth with emphasis in summer camp, out of school programs, or school age care Progressively responsible experience supervising employees, including recruiting, hiring, training and conducting performance evaluations Working with field and facility scheduling and administration Budget preparation and management of program budgets and funds Working with participants from racially, ethnically, and socio-economically diverse backgrounds Equivalency An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience developing and implementing multiple recreation programs for young people ages 3-15, especially summer camp, dance, afterschool programs, and preschool programs Experience developing and implementing a comprehensive training program for seasonal staff Experience managing, providing work direction, and evaluation for regular FT and seasonal staff Experience preparing written materials to promote and market programs and services in print and on social media Experience using program quality assessments like the Youth Program Quality Assessment, Youth Outcome Battery, or Teaching Strategies Gold Cultural responsiveness Must be a creative and flexible leader who can manage multiple work styles and duties Experience developing and leading a collaborative work group Experience and training in support for social-emotional learning or accommodations for disability- related needs Understanding of and participation in project management Clear and well-defined vision for, and commitment to, the unique role Recreation and Parks plays in community building Ability to provide a level of customer service that meets or exceeds customer expectation andsatisfaction Demonstrated cultural competence and comfort with supporting the city's strategic objectives for advancing racial equity.
Embrace and engage in cultural shift toward Continuous Improvement Desired Qualifications Eight (8) years of highly-related experience Experience managing a summer camp, afterschool, or school age childcare program Experience managing a work force and leadership development program for teens ages 12-15 Experience in developing and maintaining a portfolio for licensure or accreditation for a preschool program or summer camp Experience operating a recreational dance program, including year-end recitals TOPS facilitation training Recreation and Parks Administration, Therapeutic Recreation, Education, Sports Management, Outdoor Education, or closely related field Other education/experience/training/skills desirable for the position Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Russian, Somali, Laotian or Vietnamese language(s) Work Environment:
Work is performed in several types of environments that may involve extended periods of standing, and moving about, facilitating a variety of recreational activities during the day, evenings, or weekends in both indoor and outdoor facilities, and traveling to various locations in the Brooklyn Park area.
Recreation Supervisors may need to be able to lift objects weighing up to 30lbs.

Selection/Hiring Process The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps:
a rating of relevant education and experience and/or an oral examination (100%).
