Summary:
The Credits & Incentives SALT Senior Manager is responsible for advising clients of the credit & incentive opportunities relating to their business objectives, recommending alternate courses of action, as well as identifying different methods of complying with credits & incentives statutes and regulations.
In this role, the Senior Manager will be charged with marketing, networking and business development within their area of experience and specialization and recognizing potential changes in credit & incentives policy.
In addition, the Credits & Incentives SALT Senior Manager will work with the Core Tax Partners, and Directors to provide credits & incentives expertise to their clients.
Job Duties:
Research:
Identifies complex credits & incentives situations when research is necessary providing an outline of the issue(s) and the appropriate source of research to be conductedAnalyzes researched facts and the sources utilized prior to composing a detailed report or preparing a credits & incentives opportunities matrix of the research findingsDevelops relationships with in-state and out of state Department of Tax (DOT)/Department of Revenue (DOR) and Economic Development personnelTax Compliance:
Conducts detailed reviews of income tax returns with the ability to identify most significant statutory credit opportunities Evaluates client s current compliance processes and provide customized and automated solutions for companies to comply with their annual credits & incentives reporting Tax Consulting:
Drafts credits & incentives memorandums, and other documentation on various credits & incentives issuesConducts review of client operations to determine in which jurisdictions credits & incentives opportunities may exist Applies all applicable state tax consulting sub-specialties and confers with other STS professionals when appropriateEnsures tax engagement letters are adopted prior to engagement work commencing and manages engagementsAssists in the development of consultative credits & incentives strategiesManages the expectations of assigned clientsTax Controversy:
Drafts responses to notices from state taxing authoritiesRepresents clients before any tax authority on credits & incentives issuesProvides assistance with exam supportTax Related Software:
Utilizes credits & incentives research databases and other credits & incentives related software in the completion of assigned tasksTax Specialization:
Provides technical client service to multi-state companies on credits & incentives matters Conducts negotiation on credits & incentives matters Drafts technical memoranda regarding credits & incentives issuesStrategy Development:
Reviews studies of credits & incentives opportunities to identify alternative courses of actions to benefits clientsDevelops new or improved ideas to advance the position of clients in maximizing credits & incentives awards Assist with researching credits & incentives strategiesSuggests marketing approaches for new client acquisitionOther duties as requiredSupervisory
Responsibilities:
Supervises the day-to-day workload of STS SALT Senior Associates and Associates on assigned engagements and reviews work product Ensures STS SALT Senior Associates, Associates and Interns are trained on all relevant tax softwareEvaluates the performance of STS SALT Senior Associates and Associates and assists in the development of goals and objectives to enhance professional developmentDelivers periodic performance feedback and completes performance evaluations for STS SALT Managers, Senior Associates, Associates and InternsActs as Career Advisor to STS SALT Senior Associates and Associates, as appropriateQualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Education:
Bachelors degree in Accounting or another relevant field, requiredMasters degree in Accounting/Taxation or J.
D.

Experience:
Eight (8) or more years of prior experience in state and local/multistate experience required in the credits & incentives area, requiredPrior experience supervising tax professionals on a project or engagement basis, required Prior experience preparing and/or reviewing tax provisions, preferredLicense/Certifications:
CPA certification or other relevant certification, requiredSoftware:
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word, requiredExposure to and familiarity with standard tax applications and research tools, preferredLanguage:

Range:
