Job Description
The Insurance Verification Specialist is responsible for all aspects of financial securing for the Mental health and behavioral health clinics as assigned. Verifies health insurance for patients prior to scheduled services. Ensures insurance coverage, resolves any issues with coverage and escalates complicated issues to a supervisor or manager. Initiates prior authorizations as required by insurance. Acts as a liaison between patients, their health insurance and clinics to assist in understanding their healthcare financial responsibilities. Determines correct insurance information to enable a streamline check in process for the patient. Works to establish timely, correct payment information prior to the patient's service in order to financially secure the account, including collecting deposits or making arrangements for deposits to be collected at check-in. Advises self-pay patients of out of pocket expenses. Promotes good customer service, efficient and accurate billing and prompt reimbursement. Advises patient/clinic on authorization/referral necessity. Educates the providers on insurance company and industry changes. Assists with over turning denials from payers including submission of authorizations.
In order to qualify for this role you must possess:
Strong knowledge of health plans and payer information, including registration, financial securing, prior authorizations and denial processes

years in insurance resolution, patient accounting or medical billing with exposure to medical terminology, financial securing, collections and patient interaction
Good Microsoft Excel and Word skills
Solid understanding of medical terminology
Good organizational skills
Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to interact with patients, physicians, multiple internal/external department personnel, financial services and insurance payers
Knowledge of medical financing
Preferred
Qualifications:
Vocational/ Associate Degree or education beyond High School in financial/medical related fields OR Previous experience in front-end revenue cycle workflow
4 years of experience in the insurance verification field or in a related patient financial services area, with strong medical terminology and medical billing knowledge
Knowledge of computer applications. Knowledge of payer information and health plans
Knowledge of UMPhysicians medical billing and clinics
