Purpose of the position :
Under the direction of the Chief Risk & Compliance Officer, the Compliance Director develops, implements and oversees the Hennepin Healthcare Compliance Program to ensure adherence to applicable regulatory requirements and standards of conduct.
The Compliance Director manages compliance program staff.
The Compliance Director's role is critical to maintaining transparency in the Compliance Program and fostering a culture of compliance throughout the organization.
The Compliance Director works closely with leadership and staff throughout the organization to identify and investigate compliance issues, facilitate productive problem-solving discussions, and effectively mitigate compliance risks.
Responsibilities:
In collaboration with the Chief Compliance Officer, provides strategic direction to the HHS Compliance Program Develops, maintains, and monitors adherence to compliance policies and procedures.
Develops and conducts organization-wide compliance training and education Directs development and oversight of compliance monitoring/auditing activities and corrective action plans, including delegation of audit activities to compliance staff and vendors Provides oversight for external audits of HHS, including managing staff who assist with facilitation of external audits and coordinating with revenue cycle management.
Includes direct communication with external regulatory agencies Manages Compliance Hotline/Investigation processes, including conducting and directing internal compliance investigations throughout the organization Facilitates operational compliance committees and manages the development, implementation and management of compliance activities under the purview of these committees Develops and oversees regulatory review functions, including intake and tracking of regulatory changes impacting HHS operations.
Includes coordination with HHS Advocacy& Public Policy department Researches and/or delegates compliance guidance inquiries received from operational areas and makes recommendations regarding compliance with policies and regulations, while coordinating with legal counsel and other subject matter experts, as appropriate Develops and measures Compliance Program metrics Consults with Chief Compliance Officer regarding development of compliance reports for executive leadership and governing body Assists Chief Compliance Officer with conducting annual compliance risk assessment and development of compliance department annual work plans Maintains an in-depth understanding of organizational Code of Conduct, policies and procedures, as well as relevant federal and state laws, regulations, and health industry best practices.
Manages compliance department staff Exercises good judgement and skill related to compliance program elements, compliance investigations, and regulatory interpretation Conducts other related activities and duties as assigned
Qualifications:
/Minimum
Qualifications:
/ Bachelor s degree in health care related field 10 years of experience working in a health care compliance department, with at least a portion of that time spent in a health system environment OR An approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
/Preferred
Qualifications:
/ Experience in health care provider organizations (such as health systems or provider practice groups).
Credential(s) relevant to compliance program activities, health information management/coding credential or clinical credential.
Certified in Health Care Compliance (CHC) or willingness to obtain certification after hire.
/Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:
/ Demonstrated knowledge of health care compliance program elements and Federal Office of Inspector General principles for effective compliance program operation.
Demonstrated knowledge of health care laws and regulations, including Medicare and Medicaid benefit and reimbursement.
Demonstrated ability to manage and develop compliance team talent Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Strong oral and written communications Ability to effectively manage company resources (i.
e.
budget and personnel) Skilled in managerial duties (i.
e.
hiring, firing, performance appraisals, pay reviews) Experience with Word, Excel, other Microsoft Office Products and other reporting tools.
