Overview M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center, located on the West Bank of the Mississippi river, is looking for a hardworking Nursing Educational Specialist! Are you ready to join this exciting group of people? The Nursing Education Specialist advises and participates in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of learning in the Pre and Post Op departments.
The NES functions as educator, consultant, mentor and liaison regarding learning theory and the competence development of staff.

Assess learning needs of individuals, groups and departments Uses a variety of approaches to assess the ongoing learning needs of staff including competence assessments, surveys, interview, quality management reports, new practice guidelines and procedures, new research, regulatory requirements, and critical initiatives that support the mission of Fairview.
Considers the needs of employees and all other relevant staff, e.

students, volunteers, contract workers, and/or physicians.
Validates the identified needs.
Documents the identified needs.
Plans and designs learning approaches to meet the identified needs Collaborates to plan and design activities that meet the identified needs.
Integrates principles of adult learning.
Integrates learning organization principles and practices.
Considers staff needs regarding timelines, relevant, ease-in-use, and learning styles and abilities.
Considers resource availability and constraints.
Creates daily plan/placement of individuals on orientation and students.
Creates and applies standard orientation template/checklist.
Leads all onboarding tasks and provides ongoing status updates to OR/Pre-Post Nurse Manager.
Offers learning opportunities to meet the identified needs Offers timely, relevant, user-friendly, and cost-effective learning activities.
Offers multiple learning approaches whenever possible.
Promotes a welcoming, supportive and championing learning environment.
Acts as a role model for effective instructing.
Coaches and mentors others to be effective teachers.
Assists in preparation, management and delivery of educational in-services in collaboration with the Clinical Education Specialists and Assistant Head Nurses (UMMC, West Campus).
Evaluates the effectiveness of the learning opportunities Evaluates learning activities for satisfaction and learning.
Collaborates to evaluate learning activities and transference and results.
Modifies learning activities based on the evaluation results.
Documents and reports results.
Completes regularly scheduled check-ins and follow up with orientees and students during and after the defined orientation period.
Communicates effectively Communicates frequently and reliably with team members to ensure learning needs are met.
Brings educational expertise to other arenas such a policy and procedure development, quality improvement efforts, and activities in support of the strategic plan.
Collaborates with other departments to identify and evaluate learner ability to meet OR-related competencies.
Acts as a best-practice role model Collaborates with OR/Pre-Post Nursing and Provider leadership to implement and evaluate standards of practice for all staff.
Assists with monthly audits.
Assists with weekly newsletter creation and distribution Consistently promotes and practices Safety Always Behaviors Qualifications Required Education o Bachelor's degree in nursing, education, or other related field.
Experience o One to three years of relevant experience.
License/Certification/Registration o Registered Nurse Preferred Education o Master's degree in nursing, education, or other related field.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
