JOB ACTIVITIES
As a Senior Advanced Fuel Cell Engineer, you will work closely with a diverse team of scientists, engineers, and technicians to develop and commercialize high-performance fuel cell power generation technologies for unmanned systems (air, ground, and underwater vehicles).
The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of the design and development of fuel cell systems and demonstrates aptitude for the integration of complex electrochemical, electronics, software, thermal, and packaging technologies into prototypes and manufacturable products that delight customers. Technical curiosity, passion for winning, and a hands-on approach to problem-solving are highly sought-after traits for this position.
You will lead technology maturity projects, coordinate across multiple organizations, and build deep technical knowledge of fuel cell systems and platform integrations. You will participate in developing new concepts and writing proposals to government funding agencies to secure project funding. You will work in an Agile (Scrum) environment to solve complex problems with speed and creativity. This role reports to the Advanced Alternative Power team within Honeywell Aerospace Advanced & Applied Technology organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Lead small teams in the design and development of next generation fuel cell stacks and power systems and their integration with unmanned systems (air, ground, and underwater vehicles)
  • Act as a fuel cell technology leader within Honeywell Advanced and Applied Technology, championing technologies from initial concept through product launch
  • Integrate with existing project teams and university partners to drive development of key technologies through early design through multiple prototyping cycles
  • Work directly with sponsors and customers to understand and formulate their technical requirements and business needs into achievable technology and product roadmaps
  • Support and frequently interact with stakeholders inside and outside work area
  • Manage and understand complex customer requirements
  • Negotiate with customers, partners and subcontractors on requirements and design parameters
  • Transform customer requirements into innovative prototypes based on creative design and fabrication technique
  • Work on assignments that are complex in nature and where judgment and initiative is required
  • Solve complex problems through analysis and innovation; solutions may become part of standard operating procedure
  • Be available for travel up to 10%

U.S. PERSON REQUIREMENTS

Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status or have the ability to obtain an export authorization


MUST HAVE


  • Bachelor's degree in physics, engineering, material science, or related degree program
  • 5
    years of engineering experience in an R&D environment
  • 2
    years of experience with power and energy devices or systems (e.g., fuel cells, batteries, energy harvesting, power/energy systems) with strong understanding of PEM fuel cell technologies including MEAs, cells, stacks, BOP components, and systems

WE VALUE


  • MS or PHD in physics, engineering, material science, or related degree program
  • Breadth and depth of experience designing and building prototype systems that integrate diverse component technologies
  • Strong understanding of small, unmanned vehicle platforms and power system integration
  • Experience developing groundbreaking new ideas, writing proposals to government customers (e.g., DARPA, IARPA, DoE), winning/providing technical leadership to execute contracts
  • Strong analytical skills and an excellent understanding of basic physics
  • Strong self-motivation/direction, entrepreneurial mind-set, and teaming skills
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong project management skills to create and maintain programmatic and technical documentation
  • Proficiency in analyzing experimental data using standard software tools (e.g., Excel, MATLAB, Python, R, etc
  • Experience with CAD tools such as:
    CREO (ProE), MasterCAM, Solidworks, NX
  • Experience with modeling tools such as MATLAB, COMSOL, ANSYS
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
