ELECTRICAL SUPERINTENDENT I


PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Responsible for providing overall electrical expertise and supervision to electrical portions of work projects from planning through closeout phases; and assist site management in monitoring electrical subcontractor work.

KEY RESULT AREAS (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

Coordinate work projects within the electrical scope of the building site



  1. Ensure the high-quality installation of electrical portions of project; including underground cabling, overhead lines, and substation construction

  2. Provide drawing, constructability, submittal reviews, and feedback with the engineering team, verifying that the quality of materials, equipment, and workmanship conforms to the specifications and updates of the contract documents

  3. Partner with the Sr. Superintendent in formwork selection, equipment sizing, and site utilization plan

  4. Work with Sr. Superintendent in development of project schedules and updates, and creation of 3 week look-ahead

  5. Ensure work teams have needed resources and support

  6. Supervise and ensure quality control of work team, including self-performed and subcontracted work

  7. Manage the collaboration with appropriate personnel concerned with the connection of the project power grid to the existing distribution system

  8. Supervise the installation, splicing, and termination of fiber optic cables

  9. Attend and participate in project meetings, and provide liaison between field engineers and contractors or craft workers to ensure electrical components of the project comply with drawings and specifications

  10. Ensure correct implementation of the Mortenson Project Quality Plan (PQP) and assist in the development and updating of the project control logs and QC documentation; assist with the development of electrical Integrated Work Instructions (IWIs)


Oversight of electrical sub-contractors



  1. Review and monitor subcontractors procurement of electrical resources, methods, staffing, look-ahead schedules and coordination with other site activities

  2. Work with engineering staff to ensure plans, specifications, submittals and RFIs are transmitted to subcontractors accurately and timely

  3. Monitor Safety, Quality, and Efficiency of subcontracted work on every project

  4. Coach, mentor and train field personnel, forepersons, and assistant superintendents

  5. Ensure crews have resources and support


Ensure the implementation, practice, and enforcement of the Mortenson Zero Injury Program


Other duties as assigned



  1. Produce various reports; including Sequence of Operation instructions for equipment use and energization of circuits, and written Methods of Operation (MOPs)

  2. Establish and nurture teamwork environment

  3. Provide work direction and performance evaluations

  4. Identify hiring needs and participate in hiring, discipline, and dismissal decisions as needed

  5. Develop leadership potential through appropriate task assignments and career growth opportunities

  6. Manage open shop and union issues

  7. Maintain relationships with all visitors to the site:
    customers, architects, union representatives, subcontractors, et al.

  8. Manage site work and logistics efficiently, providing suggestions for improvement

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  1. Working knowledge of the latest NESC, NEC, IEEE, NEMA, and OSHA codes and standards and industry safety requirements and methods

  2. Ability to gain and maintain basic understanding of Wind Turbine construction to ensure proper code requirements and installation methods

  3. Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills

  4. Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks

  5. Basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices

  6. Microsoft Office, project and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level

  7. Positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills

  8. Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies

  9. Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback

  10. Ability to travel up to 100%

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent

  2. Minimum 10 years experience working with high and medium voltage equipment and cable, installation of transmission/collection lines and substation construction.

  3. Minimum 13 years supervisory experience

  4. Proficiency in the installation, testing, acceptance, maintenance, and repair of high and medium voltage cables

  5. Knowledgeable about current injection, Hi-pot, capacitance discharge, contact resistance, Megger, TTR, Doble, and other methods of cable and equipment testing

  6. Possess working knowledge of electrical drawings, sketches, and prints, underground duct banks, trenching, manholes and vaults for distribution and collection systems, underground and pad mount transformer usage, SCADA systems used in the power industry, transmission line construction, testing and commissioning, and substation construction, testing and commissioning

  7. Current driver s license


ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the following with or without an accommodation; sitting, seeing, hearing, and utilization of a computer and office equipment. The working environments consist of exposure to dirt, heat, noise, dust, and outdoor weather; as well as indoor and climate-controlled settings.
