General Mills is seeking a Building Engineer Apprentice to work part time while attending an accredited 2 year HVAC/R program. Duties include responding to customer requests and safely and efficiently operating, maintaining, and repairing all HVAC/R equipment. All the main responsibilities will be taught to apprentice through on the job training (OJT) if the candidate is unfamiliar with the tasks.
Job Status: Temporary
Hours: Full time hours in the summer and part time during the school year.
Schedule: Assigned work shift will be dependent on school schedule. Estimated hours per week will vary, minimum of 20, maximum of 40 during the summer.
Program: Seeking students who have completed of one year of study in accredited trade school or HVAC/R program or equivalent
Pay: $19.00/hour
In this role you will work in the following capacities:
Building Operations
Operate, maintain and repair all mechanical HVAC/R equipment
Pumps - annual inspections, grease bearings, rebuild
Air Handling Units - replace filters, lubricate, clean, inspect, replace belts and align sheaves
Chillers - tube cleaning, inspection of controls and safeties
Electrical - troubleshoot under supervision, read schematics
Air Compressors - Preventative Maintenance (PM)
Refrigeration - leak testing, troubleshooting and replacement of common components
On the Job Training (OJT) - boiler/special C license, Building Automation System
Make adjustments and changes on HVAC and related equipment to maintain defined comfort levels within set guidelines including but not limited to: Cooling and heating system temperature adjustments
Maintain plant logs and files, including PM records and HVAC/R equipment logs
Use of facilities management information system to monitor and complete work orders
Replacement of water filters and water testing
Become familiar with all building emergency and life safety systems as well as alarm operation
Firm grasp of Lockout Tagout procedures
Customer Service
Provide prompt, courteous, and professional response to customer requests
Perform as a team member with all employees
Safety / Regulatory
Assist in ensuring compliance with all company and government laws, codes, standards, regulations and policies
Other
Comply with all emergencies and life safety procedures established by General Mills. (Training will be provided.)
Be responsible for all tools, uniforms, and assigned company property
Maintain a neat, orderly appearance
Other duties as assigned
Minimum qualifications
High School diploma required
Must be enrolled in an accredited 2 year HVAC/R program
Completion of one year of study in accredited trade school or HVAC/R program or equivalent
Must have Universal CFC (Chlorofluorocarbon) Certification
Physical: Lift 80
pounds; move 500-600 pound barrel with the aid of a barrel dolly; use full range of body movements (standing, squatting, sitting, walking, bending, etc.); climbs stairs and ladders; manipulates small objects (thermostat calibration tools, small repair parts); wear 12-pound average tool pouch; distinguish different colors (e.g. yellow alarm lights require different response than red alarm lights, wire colors, etc.); read gauges and thermometers that are installed at odd angles or may be long distances from the floor
Strong orientation to customer service with excellent communication skills
Provide prompt and courteous response to customer requests to ensure customer satisfaction and confidence with Facilities Department with required follow-up with customer as required
Maintain ethical, professional, and courteous relations with customers, contractors, and vendors
Perform as a team member with all employees
Preferred Qualifications
Proficient at electrical and pneumatic control systems; familiar with Building Management Systems
Exposure to Computerized Maintenance Management Systems
Exposure to continuous improvement techniques
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and SharePoint
