Civilian Pay Technician

This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-6. At the GS-5 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-6. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher-level work, and availability of funds. The major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Accurate processing of pay and maintenance of payroll records; Examines personnel actions, pay changes and employee requests to make appropriate changes to pay records; Answers requests and provide advice to employees, supervisors, financial management specialist, and personnel specialists on rules, regulations, and procedures relating to pay; Prepares bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports; Maintains retirement records, health benefits, taxes, and all other documentation necessary to support payment of salaries; Verifies payroll deductions; Determines eligibility for pay and benefits; Conducts comprehensive reviews of pay transactions; Provides customer service; Maintains confidentiality of records and files; Performs other related duties as assigned or required. You must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in Federal Service that has provided me with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. Specialized experience includes processing and verifying payroll transactions with knowledge of timekeeping procedures; ensuring accurate and timely pay for employees; applying the organizations absence and leave policies to ensure accurate charge for leave; using a computer to process payroll transactions and perform associated administrative duties.- OR - Successful completion of 4 years of education (above high school) in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) - OR - Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements at the GS-5 level. NOTE:
Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
