Student Trainee (Legal and Kindred Office Automation)

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing a variety of legal and administrative support functions to the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Minnesota. Typical work assignments will include:
Examining, preparing and processing a variety of technical legal documents, e.g., complaints, motions, orders, answers, pleadings, subpoenas, and libels; Assembling exhibits, affidavits, and other legal documents; Assembling and organizing files and records material for disposition or transfer to records depository; Maintaining calendar of assigned active cases; Tracking filing, hearing, and trials dates, and scheduling conference and interviews; Producing a variety of written documents and materials using a wide range of office software applications; Operating copy, scanning and fax machines; Receiving telephone calls and visitors to the office, controlling access to the office and ensuring that only visitors properly cleared are authorized entry; and Notifying staff members of visitors or incoming telephone calls. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. To be eligible for this internship ALL of the following requirements must be met:
Student Status:
Definition of a student - applicant must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited high school, technical or vocational school, two-year or four-year college or university, graduate/professional school, or certificate program equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study (go to http:
//www.ed.gov/accreditation to verify accreditation status) pursuant to 5 CFR 362. You must be considered in good academic standings by the school. Individuals must be taking at least a half-time academic, vocational, or technical course load leading to a degree, diploma, or certificate. Half-time is defined by the school in which the student is enrolled. Grade Point Average:
You must have at least a 2.5 GPA. Citizenship:
Student Interns must be United States citizens or owe permanent allegiance to the United States. (Currently, natives of American Samoa, Swains Island and certain inhabitants of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are the only groups that owe permanent allegiance to the United States.)Background Investigation:

To be eligible at the GS-5 level, you must have at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below:
Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience. Specialized
Experience:
One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal Service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks:
reviewing documents with legal implications for accuracy and completeness (e.g., court documents, real estate documents, contracts, insurance or benefits claims, mortgage or loan applications, tax forms, or other types of legal documents); typing and formatting correspondence and forms; maintaining file systems; and obtaining needed information from files or general reference sources. OR Education:
Completion of four (4) academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree. OR Combining Education and
Experience:
Applicants must possess a combination of post high school education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. For GS-5 level positions (except Clerk-Stenographer, which does not require specialized experience), only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.)

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
